Abstract

On prépare l'acide isobutyrique par carbonylation en présence d'un catalyseur contenant un sel d'un métal du groupe VIII du tableau périodique des éléments. Le procédé consiste à faire réagir le monoxyde de carbone sur un ester isopropylique en présence d'un iodure et d'un sel de fer, de nickel ou de préférence de cobalt, éventuellement en présence d'eau et/ou d'un acide organique, et éventuellement sous pression d'hydrogène. Les produits obtenus contiennent peu d'acide butyrique par rapport à l'acide isobutyrique; l'intérêt technique de l'acide isobutyrique repose sur la possibilité de le transformer en acide méthacrylique par déhydrogénation.
