Abstract
A smoke-tracer device consists of an adaptable reservoir fitted to a projectile, contg. a pyrotechnic compsn. and a light-producing compsn., the pyrotechnic compsn. contg. 75 plus-or-minus 3% by vol. of a smoke-producing compsn. (A) and 25 plus-or-minus 3% of a light-producing compsns (B). Suitably (A) contains hexachloroethane, anthracene and Mg; (B) contains SrO2, BaO2, Sr(NO3)2, SiO2, Ca resinate and phenolic resins. The two components are placed in the reservoir in two juxtaposed layers or in several alternating layers. The device is used to follow the trajectory (over a range of 2000m) and determine the point of impact of projectiles, esp. small- and medium-calibre warheads. The present device can be used at night or during the day, even in bright daylight.
