Abstract

A film of SnOx 0.3-0.6 microns thick is formed on a glass substrate by spraying the glass with a soln. contg. anhydrous SnCl2 in an oxygen contg. atmos. while maintaining the glass temp. constant at 950 degrees F by floating the glass in a heated liq. bath. The spraying is effected in successive intermittent passes, each pass spraying only part of the glass. Used in coating window glass for vehicles, houses, large buildings and hot houses, viewing windows of ovens and solar heating systems. The coated glass has a reflectivity for infra red of about 80% compared to 50% for conventionally SnO2 coated glass. The resistivity is 8-17 ohms/sq. and transmissivity 70-80% visible light.
