Abstract

A bottle capping machine has a motor driven shaft driving an intermediate spindle with a cup shaped lower end which fits over the screw cap drive member. Inside the hollow intermediate spindle is a rod which rests on a spring, and both are enclosed in a sleeve inside the intermediate spindle. The bottom of the sleeve rests inside a short hollow piece which is held down on top of the screw cap. The screw cap drive member is a flanged sleeve which encloses the hollow piece, and which has a taper opening underneath to engage the screw cap. To reduce centrifugal force on the cap, this flanged sleeve is of relatively short and compact designs and the drive coupling is between this sleeve and the cup shaped extremity of the intermediate drive spindle.
