Abstract

The intermediate pane or panes are suspended from the top part of the frame near their edges, and are free to move sideways on their mountings; and at least the other edges of panes can move slightly w.r.t. the frame. The intermediate panes are pref. located with a small amt. of play in grooves on the inside of a monolithic profile forming the frame. Alternatively, the grooves may be formed by several mating profiles, or U-profiles welded or stuck together; the profiles may also form a cavity for holding dessicant. Pegs passing through holes in panes are pref. used to suspend the panes, and the grooves provide sufficient clearance for the thermal expansion of panes which are pref. 1-3mm thick. The multiplane glazing provided high thermal and sound insulation, without being heavier than double glazing; and the plastic panes can expand in their locating grooves without curving or folding.
