Abstract

The boom is used to handle and empty large containers fitted with a bottom outlet. It comprises a U-shaped wheeled base (35a, 35b) having a vertical mast (11) at the rear. The mast is in two parts, hinged (12) centrally to permit lowering of the upper half and passage through doorways. A winch (23) operates the lifting gear to raise the container (10) off the ground and into a supporting platform (27). This is secured by chains (29) to the frame of the boom and a self-contained motorised screw flight conveyor (33, 34, 38) is positioned underneath the container outlet. A hopper (32) receives the contents for extraction by the conveyor.
