Abstract
The collector has a rectangular casing with double walls (4, 13). The space between them is filled with mineral wool insulation (18). The top of the collector is closed by a double glazed cover (17). A flat hollow rectangular container (15) is held in the middle of the casing. Its surface is black and it forms a liquid reservoir with a radiation absorbing surface. Flow and return pipes connect it with the primary heat exchanger coil in a storage vessel containing hot water for domestic, heating or industrial use. The primary water is circulated by a pump which is controlled by thermostats in the primary water. Circulation is thus arrested until the primary water has reached an adequate temperature within the collector reservoir.
