Abstract

The external earth contact, for a cylindrical connector, consists of metal spring fingers (6) acting radially against the outside metal surface of one half of the connector (1) and curved (8) slightly towards their ends to act radially outwards against the inside of an earthed tube (2). The fingers are made by punching a metal disc and bending up at right angles to the plane of the disc to form a circle of fingers. The tips of the fingers press axially against a step (7) in the surface of the first half of the connector and the outer ring (4) that joins the fingers together presses radially against a seat (3) in a collar (5) around the first connector half.
