Abstract

A thermoplastic polyurethane is prepd. by reaction of: (a) 1.5-2.5 mols. of a polymeric glycol (I) of mol.wt. 400-3000 with 1 mol. of an organic diisocyanate to form a macroglycol of mol.wt. 800-10,000 with term inal OH gps.; (b) 1 mol. (a) with 1.2-26 mols of a 2nd diisocyanate, which can be the same as or different from the 1st, in the presence of 0.2-25 mols. of 1 or more satd. aliphatic diols. Prod. may be used for prepn. of elastomeric prods. by extrusion or injection moulding. The prods. have excellent melt flow behaviour over a wide range of operating temps. and give mouldings or extrudates free from defects such as surface roughness and 'orange peel' appearance which frequently occur with this type of prod.
