Abstract

Spheroidal or spherical particles of wear resistant material into a mould so as to form a layer which will become the wear resistant surface of the component. The mould is vibrated to pack the particles as densely as possible on the mould surface, then heated to 54-71 degrees C at which a mixt. of a heat thermosetting epoxy resin and an amine hardener have a viscosity 50 cP, is poured in on one side of the heated mould to raise it to the point at which its viscosity is lowered sufficiently for it to flow around the particles and expel air from the cavities between them, before the reaction between the resin and the hardener increases the viscosity of the mass. Hydrofoils for supporting felts and gauzes, as well as suction box covers, etc., are produced with smooth surfaces very highly resistant to wear. The components are not easily damaged during handling for cleaning and assembly and they are compatible with the gauzes so that these do not suffer excessive wear.
