Abstract

The carriageway surface heater for use in highway maintenance works consists of a battery of bas burners (14) which are mounted on a height adjustable trailer (1). The wheeled trailer has a chassis (10) which is mounted on the wheel axle. The heaters (14) are uniformly disposed about the chassis which is adjustable for height relative to the axle. The heaters are supplied from an appropriate integral power source. Two trains of wheels may be incorporated, one train (8) with metal rims (9), and one retractable train (5) with pneumatic tyres (7). Seven transverse rows (13) of burners (14) are used which operate at 15 to 40cm from the highway surface.
