Abstract

Moulded profiles of relatively low compressive strength are covered with thermoplastic sheet by supporting the sheet and the profile over a solid mould which matches the core profile, and generating a rigid (polyurethane) foam in situ between the core profile and the cover sheet. Used for replacing e.g. solid wood profiles with profiles made of insulating materials while trying to retain profile surfaces with hard sharp outlines and contours. The developing foam forces the sheet to follow the sharp contours of the supporting mould withoutimposing excessive local pressures on the core profile.
