Abstract

Prepn. of 1D-(1,3,5/2)-1,5-diazidocyclohexane-2,3-diol of formula (I) comprises heating in a medium, esp. DMF in presence of an alkali metal azide, a cpd. of formula (II) (where R is alkanesulphonyl or arene sulphonyl). Prodts. are intermediates, for synthetic antibiotics. Typically, 1D-(1,3,5/2)-1,5-diazidocyclohexane-2,3-diol is prepd. in 65% yield by heating 1L-(1,2,5/3)-5-chloro-1-O-tosylcyclohexane-1,2,3-triol with NaN3 in dimethylformamide at 80 degrees C for 2 hrs.
