Abstract

A house (1) has a kitchen (10) containing appliances such as a washing machine (11) a dishwasher (12) and a sink (13). A bath (16) and a basin (18) in a bathroom (15) also discharge waste water into the same waste pipe (20). This is taken into a reservoir (21) the discharge (28) from which is at a higher level than the inlet so that the waste water is forced to accumulate in the reservoir. It discharges from the reservoir to the town drains (29). Fresh water from the mains (22) flows into a tank (23). This is connected to the waste water reservoir by a heat pump (25) with the evaporator in the reservoir and the condenser in the tank.
