Abstract

Laminated particle- or fibre-board made by cold pressing a layer of resin impregnated particles covered on one or both faces with non-impregnated sheet (e.g. paper or cloth), then rapidly heating the consolidated laminate in situ to cure the resin. For making board covered with printed paper or cloth or with exposed and developed photographic coating by transfer from temporary support sheets or plates. The single stage process avoids alignment problems and extra moulding cycles associated with lamination of prefabricated board with preimpregnated covers and/or post-laminated prints. Cold pressing causes resin from the particle layer to penetrate or fully impregnate and coat the applied covers, to a greater degree than occurs with hot pressing first.
