Abstract

Two horizontal conveyors (4, 5) are located side by side but their belts are moving in opposite directions. They both terminate inside a vertical elevator (3). A horizontal lifting platform (17) is provided above each conveyor. The four corners of each rectangular lifting frame are attached to endless loops of elevator chains (11). Box shaped articles or containers which arrive on one conveyor are lifted by the frame (17) to the top of the elevator. They are then transfered to the descending loop of the elevator so that the boxes are stacked on a pallet which is located on the exit conveyor. By operating the elevator in reverse, stacks of boxes can be transformed into single boxes on the exit conveyor.
