Abstract

Fine machining of metallic working part surfaces by combined electrochemical erosion and mechanical erosion, by process in which honing tool pressed against surface to be machined in bath of electrolyte performs a rotary and lifting motion, takes place by using, as electrolyte, an oil-in-water emulsion, pref. a cooling lubricant. Use of process for machining surfaces of supereutectic Al-Si-alloys contg. prim. crystals, esp. of AlSi17Cu4Mg type, is claimed, partic. for use on cylinder surfaces of internal combustion engines. High accuracy on repeats and high quality of finish can be achieved more quickly.
