Abstract

Ram for metal extrusion press, consists of a row of blocks assembled into a stack through which at least one tie rod passes, the tie rod(s) engaging with the first and last blocks in the stack to clamp the assembly together. A pref. design uses a base-block employed to exert pressure, a row of intermediate blocks, and an end-block used to hold an extrusion element, e.g. a pressure plate or a die assembly held via a cap. The tie rods are pref. bolts, the bolt-heads being located in the base-block whereas the threaded end screws into the end-block or the latter is held on the bolt by a clamping nut.
