Abstract

Industrial and sewage sludge is burnt in a reactor with a fluidised bed. Part of the combustion gases emerging from the reactor pass into a pre-drying chamber so as to evaporate part of the moisture from the sludge, while another part flows into an after-burner chamber in order to complete burning of the combustible ingredients of the gases. The gases emerging from these chambers are then reunited. Gas speed through the after-burner chamber can be higher than through the reactor combustion chamber. Some of the gases from the pre-drying chamber can be passed either to the inlet or the outlet of the after-burner chamber.
