Abstract
Injection moulding machine works with two moulds mounted on either side of the axis of the injection machine with stationary mould platens adjacent to the manifold which divides the injection flow at 90 degrees to the injection machine head. The mobile platens are mounted on sliding columns which can move through bearings in the stationary platens. The mobile platens are closed upon the stationary platens by long stroke, low force rams; the columns are moved in conjunction with one of the mobile platens. The other mobile platen can be clamped at a position the columns adjacent to the stationary moulds, and the columns then subjected to tension to lock the moulds. Used esp. for efficient moulding of items involving long moulding cycles, i.e. large mouldings, thermosetting compositions, etc. The locking columns are stressed over a minimum length, with no significant flexural forces. Both tools both use common mould locking rams and do not involve locking units requiring space outside the area needed for mould opening.
