Abstract

Monobloc shell traverse (1) or sleeper for e.g. railway support, is pref. of reinforced polyester resin, of inverted externally flanged 'U' cross section with integral hollow stub post formations (10) at each longitudinal extremity; and is designed to absorb vehicle vibration and provide an insulated support for diverse forms of rail guided vehicular traffic. Pref. the unit is mould formed, embodies stiffners (14) for each rail (3) support, and incorporates pre-placed rail fixing fittings. The resin used is fire resistant and timber filling blocks (5) can be used locating directly beneath rail bearings; the unit can be ballasted by filling with e.g. concrete; and rail fixing fittings are bolts (151, 161) of which the heads are cast into the unit.
