Abstract

The addressing system for a letter or postcard uses a label which is attached to the bottom left hand corner, of the letter, incorporating a grid of blocks consisting of a number of columns corresponding to the number of possible characters of the postal code and of a number of lines corresponding to the number of the coded address, then the coded address is attached to the grid by marking the corresponding characters, then the letter can be distributed according to the destination. This grid can be magnetic or optical and the letter is scanned in a vertical position. Alternatively, the grid can be printed directly on the envelope and the grid can be printed in magnetic ink.
