Abstract

The input-output devices (6-15) are grouped round a central electronic assembly, containing a micro-processor (1), a telecommunications interface (3), a memory unit (2) and a director module (5). The central assembly acts as an interface between the peripherals and the remote computer, and eliminates the individual electronic portions of the peripherals, whilst providing a flexible and expansible interface. The director module (5) polls the peripherals, determines their states, and connects them to the microprocessor (1) as required. Inputs and outputs from the microprocessor (1) reach the peripherals by the busbars (16 & 17).
