Abstract

The tyre tread is reinforced by insert layers between the tread and the carcase of the tyre. They comprise two separate layers with folded over ends (13, 23) at the outer edges of the tyre. The layers are interdigitated so that the tyre edges have triple layers for added strength at the tyre edges, for improved wear and cornering grip. The folded over sections comprise 30% to 37 1/2% of the width of the tread with the layers made from metal fibres, glass, cellulose, graphite, silicone or any other flexible reinforcing material. The arrangement as assymetric, with the folds all being in the same direction.
