Abstract

The system is particularly for vegetable grains which are passed through a drying zone where they come into contact with gas at high temperature, and are then rapidly extracted in order to undergo a rest period which is a multiple of that for which the grains are exposed to the gas. This cycle is repeated several times before the dried grains are discharged. The grains can be circulated continuously or cyclically, and the multiple value can be determined by the grain characteristics. There can be a column above a drying sleeve in turn surmounting an extraction sleeve, and a reservoir whose volume is a multiple of the grain volume in the drying sleeve. Means for heating the gas and delivering to the drying sleeve can be included together with a handling mechanism below the extraction sleeve, returning the grains to the reservoir or discharging them.
