Abstract

Device permitting the precise deposition of a coating of molten metal on a substrate, without excess thickness of the coating using a roller (I) rotating in a bath of metal kept molten by controlled heating; the deposit is closely controlled to give an exact but adjustable thickness. The novelty is the use of a dosing roller (ii) used to adjust the thickness of the coating, and another roller (III) removing all excess molten metal from the substrate,irrespective of the nature of the excess, e.g. due to holes in the substrate; a scraper removes the excess metal from roller (III) and returns it to the melt. Roller (IIe is pref. made of metal with a highly ground finish so the melt does not adhere to its surface but does adhere to the surface of roller (I). Coating is on substrates made e.g. of wood, leather, metal, laminated plastics, cardboard, or printed circuit boards, the coating being e.g. tin.
