Abstract
A resin is prepd. by hardening a mixt. of (a) a polyepoxide with >=1 internal epoxy gp., (b) a polycarboxylic acid or anhydride as hardener, and (c) a catalyst system contg. an active Cr(III) catalyst with available coordination posns. The epoxy cpd. is esp. an epoxidised unsatd. fatty acid (deriv.); the acid is partic. 12-22C, and has I2 no. 30-400 (80-200) and oxirane no. of is not 3% (is not 5%) after epoxidisation. The epoxy cpds. harden at relatively low temp., even at room temp. The compsn. of epoxy cpd. and Cr(III) cpds. can be stored for long periods. The rate of hardening is about the same for all types of epoxy cpds. The compsn. can be used in coatings, casting resins, laminates, sealants, putties and elastomers.
