Abstract
A powder compsn. used in explosives and firing devices and contg. polyvinylnitrate and nitrocellulose in the wt. ratio between 0.10 and 0.66 is improved by the incorporation of a strongly reducing metal chosen from Al and Mg. The powder has increased power and lower combustion temperature. Amt. of metal used is 0-5 wt. % based on the other components. Particle size of the metal is approx. 20 mu. The powder is pref. made porous by incorporating (0-60%) a soluble salt at the time of mixing and then washing the salt out of the compsn.
