Abstract

Humidity content of substances such as tobacco is measured by determining the loss of weight after hot air is passed through the substance. A particular air temperature is required and differences are accounted for by a calibration chart. Repetitive cycles are avoided by using an autotransformer to regulate heater power. The substance under test is placed in a drying container through which heated air at a particular temperature is passed. The air is obtained by blowing air through a tube containing a heating element (31). This heater is connected to the output terminals (34) of an autotransformer (32) through a control knob (33) with cursor (35) thus enabling the ideal temperature to be rapidly obtained. The transformer is connected to a power source through fuses (37).
