Abstract

A method of sepg. particles of solids from a suspension by filtering on a rotary drum filter on which is deposited a pre-coat, incorporates imparting to the scraper an alternating motion at regular intervals. During this alternating motion, the scraper is advanced so that it penetrates deeply into the pre-coat, at a rate such that the drum is not stopped, held in this position for one revolution and then withdrawn to its original position, at a rate greater than that of the reforming of the pre-coat, so that the scraper does not compress the pre-coat, fed as a pulp in a predetermined proportion. The method eliminates very largely the effect of clogging in depth of the pre-coat. It allows the reconstitution of a new more permeable pre-coat and avoids the need to stop the filtration.
