Abstract

A compsn. contains (a) >=1 cpd. (I) with sex hormone activity chosen from oestrogens, gestagens, androgens and/or anabolics with >=1 OH gp.; (b) >=1 ester (II) of (I) with a carboxylic acid; (c) >=1 solid, pharmaceutically acceptable excipient and opt. (d) and OH-free cpd. (III) with hormonal activity. Used as implants for increasing growth rate of animals for meat. By using (I) and (II) together the desired effect is prolonged by 20-60% and since adsorption of hormone is slow and even, disturbance of hormone balance is prevented. The compsns. also (i) protect animals against attack by microbes and viruses so reduce mortality esp. in young calves and (ii) prevent genital hypoplasia, ovarian insufficiency or satyriosis.
