Abstract

The earthing strip for high-voltage cables with plastic dielectrics is a metal strip (17) with a flexible connection braid (4) rivetted to one end. The strip is stamped so that flexible contacts (3) are formed at regular intervals along its length, their shape provides self cleaning and heat dispersion properties. The outer covering (15) of the cable is stripped away to expose the outer foil screen (14). The strip is wrapped around the screen and can be secured by a plastic tube (16) that shrinks after heating or by other mechanical means. This provides an earth connection that reduces insulation creep away from the point of contact and thus reduces the risk of eventual ionisation and deterioration.
