Abstract

The ram comprises a piston (4) sliding in a cylinder (1) and solidly secured to a main rod (7) passing through one end wall (2) and having an internal bore (11). An auxiliary rod (10) passes through the other cylinder end wall (3) and fits part of the way inside the main rod. The auxiliary rod rotates, but cannot slide, in its respective end wall, and has two diametrally opposite external spiral grooves (19, 20) separated by spiral ramps (21, 22) whose peripheral faces bear against the wall of the bore on the main rod. The first groove opens into the chamber formed between main and auxiliary rods inside the bore (13), and which in turn is permanently connected to the outside of the main rod by a first passage (23).
