Abstract

The instrument is for cutting biological tissue, having a knife mounted on a source of ultrasonic vibrations and oscillating in the lengthwise direction when being placed in direct contact with the tissue in use. The knife is a metal blade (17), with its active part ending in a progressively rounded portion (19) and having cutting teeth (18) where it is in contact with the tissue. The transverse section of the cutting portion can be trapezoidal so that the part coming in contact with bony tissue is thicker than that cutting cartilage tissue. The knife sides are not parallel, and do not come in contact with the surfaces of the tissue inside the operative scar.
