Novel appts. for the generation of ice-forming nuclei for the stimulation of atmospheric pptn. and for protection against hail, having one or more containers contg. a soln. of nucleating substance in a combustible compsn., a means for conveying soln. to a nozzle of a burner, means for passing a prim. or sec. air current into the burner and a vertical chimney. A suitable nucleating soln. is AgI in anhydrous isopropylamine and kerosene in a wt. ratio of 1:10:3. For seeding clouds with ice-forming nuclei contg. practically pure AgI. The appts. can be used on vehicle such as an aeroplane and may be electrically driven.
