Abstract

Jet engine is mounted on a platform with the exhaust gas nozzle lying above it. A noise control unit has elongate slot nozzle(s) in the platform, fed with a working medium from the engine. The medium is emitted as a jet curtain extending over or under the path of exit of the exhaust nozzle, such that (part of) the jet energy impinging on the curtain from the nozzle is broken away from the path. Preferably the slot nozzle emits working medium obliquely w.r.t. the long axis of the jet engine exhaust gas nozzle. The platform may be a load-bearing wing of an aircraft.
