Abstract
The body of the device carries rods in bearings. A double acting hydraulic ram is used to advance arms of the grip on their support, moving the rods through the body. A double sided rack gear attached to another rod is engaged with gears attached to the pincer arms. Another double acting ram is attached to the other end of the rod. This ram moves the rack relative to the first rods, operating the pincer. End stops and valves operate and limit the action. The pincer arms have spring loaded pistons which press together to take up play in the mechanism.
