Abstract

Mounted at the conveyor discharge end (1, 2) an electric motor and gear reduction unit (28) rotates a drum (9) which is grooved to accept a steel wire (3) connected onto its periphery at both ends. The closed loop formed by these connections is passed over a return pulley (4) at the other side of the belt, the excess length being wound on the drum. A loop is formed, parallel to and just above the belt surface (10, 11), its tension being maintained constant by springs on the pulley bracket (8). The direction of rotation of the drum is reversed each time the ends of the wire are approached.
