Abstract

The device has arc-shaped bars (2) and is in the shape of an anchor. At the two ends of the bars there can be small horizontal portions (3) forming hooks preventing expulsion via the neck of the uterus. The vertical bar can be curved at the end, forming a circle under vertical pressure to avoid expulsion. Apart from the resistance to expulsion by natural muscular contraction, the design is not likely to cause cramps and pain. The device is typically a silicon rubber and may be combined with barium sulphate or wound with a copper wire.
