Abstract
An impact absorbing device for a belt conveyor (10, 11) mounted underneath the belt at the feed end, where heavy lumps of material are discharged onto the top from above consists of a moulded resilient plastics layer (13) with a set of blocks (20) on top, with the blocks towards the underside of the belt, acting as shock absorbers. These blocks are arranged in a pattern of staggered rows, and are chamfered all round to avoid wear on the belt. The plastics layer is bonded onto a metal support on the underside. This support having indentations on its upper surface for good contact with the layer, and the support has an elongated slot through it, for engagement with an I or T beam on which it is mounted.
