Abstract

Surface treatment to promote growth on sandy soils, e.g. embankments, whilst stabilising the surface against erosion, is designed to cover the surface and is a mixture of a mineral based cement, an organic fibrous material and a fertiliser. The cement can be ordinary Portland cement, the organic fibre is paste nodules (a by-product of cellulose paste) and the mixture can incorporate seeds. Tests have shown the paste nodules to encourage growth and diverse successful experiments have been carried out typically on sandy and volcanic ash surfaces. A specific mixture included 154 g of dry paste nodules, 346g cement, 154g fertiliser NPK, 15g seed and 6 litres of water to cover one square metre.
