O-Malylsalicylic acid, its salts and esters are of formula (I) (where R' and R2 are H, alkali or alkaline eath metal cations, Al, opt. substd. aliphatic or aromatic amines, quat. ammonium ions, residues of amino acids or opt. substd. aminoalcohols, or R2 may be the group The cpds. have antipyretic and analgesic action of salicylic acid and are free of toxic actions, e.g. induction of tinnitus. The antiinflammatory and decongestant action of alicylic acid is improved by the presence in the molecule of a constituent of the Krebs cycle.
