Abstract

Expandable, synthetic, resinous polymer particles contg. 60-92 (esp. 70-80) wt. % styrene and 8-40 (esp. 20-30) wt. % acrylonitrile and which (a) are bulk crosslinked and (b) when unfoamed form a coherent gel in DMF at 25 degrees C with a swell ratio of 10-50, are new. Also claimed are compsns. contg. an open-celled flexible foam matrix having dispersed throughout at least part of its numerous closed-cell foam particles of the above type (these are pref. 1-15 vol. % of the total compsn.). Used for mfr. of upholstery.
