Abstract

Portable plucking machine, for removing feathers and down from fat poultry, comprises three plastic rollers but the one which drives the other two, may be of metal. The driving roller is fitted with a cranked handle to provide the rotational movement. The drive is transmitted by a rubber belt which also acts as a conveyor for assisting the removal of the feathers. The axles of the three rollers are mounted in hermetic ball bearings in the framework which is fitted with a handle. The handle is inclined so that the rollers rest on the skin of the animal to be plucked and the machine is moved along at an angle of 30 degrees with respect to the axis of the rollers. The crank is turned by the pivoting handle which is turned as the machine advances. Machine can be used anywhere where and plucking can be effected perfectly without damage to the animal. The amt. of manual finishing required is considerably reduced.
