Abstract

A conventional space heating stove has a chimney, to discharge the combustion gases, running through the upper part of the room. A closed heat exchanger (1) is built into a section of the chimney. It has an outer casing (7) and upper and lower header plates (5) between which run vertical smoke tubes (4). One side of the casing has an extension which houses a fan (8). There is an inlet opening (10) behind the fan and a discharge opening (11) opposite the fan on the other side of the smoke tubes. Taper sections above and below the header plates reduce the outside diameter to that of the flue. Flue gases pass through the smoke tubes and the fan blows room air across them.
