Abstract

Thermoplastic polymer compsns. (A) are flame-proofed by incorporating 0.05-7wt. % of at least one linear or cyclic cpd. having general formula: -(P((O)xR1)((O)y)R2)=N)-n (I) (where R1 and R2 are opt. substd. aliphatic or aromatic gps., n is a no. >3 indicating ave. degree of polymsn., and x and y are 0 or 1), amts. being calcd. as P w.r.t. (A). The process is used pref. for fibre-forming linear aromatic polyesters and/or polyamides. Flame-proofing does not impair other prods. of (A), which can be processed to fibres and can be corrected w.r.t. brightness by bleaching with chlorite or hypochlorite and optical brighteners.
