Abstract

The method involves selectively affixing circular marks in successive circular places arranged concentrically around a central point, in a predetermined relative radial disposition. The presence or absence of a mark in each of the different places defines a significant codes description of the characteristic data of the object which can be read no matter what the orientation of the object is around the central point. The circular marks (16) are produced on typically seven concentric spaces (18) and there is a central mark (22). The method is typically for cylindrical containers such as steel gas bottles and is used to indicate filling or checking date etc.
