Abstract

Cpds of formula (I) are claimed: (where R1 is an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic gp contg one or more OH gp. and substd by aromatic or or heterocyclic gp. and R2 is aromatic or heterocyclic). The prepn also claimed, comprises reacting one mole of the anhydride of a halogen -4- naphthalene-1,8-dicarboxylic acid with one mole of an aromatic or heterocyclic amine H2N-R2 (II), the halogen being Cl or Br, and then reacting the prod with an amine H2N-R1 (III) in the presence of an acid acceptor, e.g. Na2CO3. (I) are novel dyes and are partic. suitable for preparing pigments which are fluorescent in daylight. Materials which may be dyed include plastics, resins, oil, waxes, paper, printing pastes polyacrylonitrile spinning compsns. etc. (I) are also intermediates for preparing e.g. acid or cationic dyes and are partic. fast to light and solvents.
