Abstract
The memory system has zones which accommodate different features of the language, to enable speech to be converted into digital form, and thereafter for subsequent synthesis into acoustic form. A complete circuit would involve a microphone (14), an analogue-digital converter (22), an ordinater (28), a reconverter from digital to analogue (34) and a loud speaker (38). The original speech curve is digitalised by splitting it into time intervals t(i) - t(i-1) for i = 1, 2, 3., N etc., and the associated amplitudes A (i) stored in a data vecor (delta.t(i), A(i) over the whole range i = 1 to N. Subsequent synthesis is accomplished over a memory span encompassing 20 to 100 octets.
