Abstract
Device for measuring the workability of a viscous fluid matl., partic. a road-surfacing cpd. such as a bitumen binding agent with a filler, comprises a test cessel secured to a rigid framework which supports a variable-speed motor of which the shaft extends down into the vessel to rotate a stirrer blade in the test matl. At any given speed, the torque resistance of the matl. to stirrer rotation is detected and transmitted, e.g. electronically to a recorder and/or an indicator, a temp. control system ensuring constant temp. of the matl. during the test. Used for measuring under controlled conditions, the workability of road-surfacing and floor-surfacing cpds. which are fluid by virtue of a binding agent mixed with a filling matl. The binder may be of a bituminous nature, i.e. for mastics, or a hydraulic nature, i.e. for cements. A standard device operated a standard, graduated scale of readings of workability, so that optimum workability can be reproduced in field conditions.
